The Britten Building, Holt

An outstanding building that opens up and reinforces routes through the campus. The form is simple and restrained, giving an honest representation of the internal functions. The construction quality is very impressive and looks far more expensive than the £4.1m budget. Materials selection is again well considered and restrained.

The design quality continues internally, with robust and high quality finishes. Services integration and acoustics have been achieved to a high standard. The school client is delighted with this building, believing the new facility makes a significant contribution to the school campus.

Both the café and concert areas function well, giving flexibility in use and a very high standard of accommodation. The music areas and classrooms function very well within a logical layout. It is clear that the brief was well interrogated and floor areas have been allocated with skill to maximise teaching opportunities.
